S4 252 Mill St. 1865

This building was constructed later than the other ones on the street. It deserves notice since it was the first home of Phoenixville Hospital – started by the Order of the Golden Eagle. It was incorporated as the Stratford Castle Hospital on June 12, 1893. This small double house was acquired and modified by the association and opened for the first time on December 16, 1893.

A brakeman on the Reading Railroad was the first patient admitted because of an accident. Only 6 to 8 patients could be there at one time. So in 1895 the Phoenixville Hospital was chartered and the hospital moved to its Nutt Road location in 1900.
