S5 21 Gay Street

This historic building was constructed in 1905 as the Palace Livery. It wasn’t associated with any of Phoenixville’s hotels.  Where the doorway is now located, there was an opening through which carriages would enter.  They were then stored on the second floor.

The first floor was used for stalls for the horses, and the third floor was used to store hay.  At the corner of Gay & Prospect Streets there was a tobacco shop and a pool room for the drivers.
