These two French Empire style homes, built in 1874, were once occupied by the Vanderslice family. The elaborate late Victorian style of these homes with their mansard style roofs, bay windows and decorative porches is an expression of how successful Vanderslice was with his real estate development enterprises.
303-305 Vanderslice St. was occupied by John Vanderslice himself and his family. Besides his property development, he also was an investor in the coal and lumber business. Also, in partnership with Samuel Cornett, they owned a dry goods and grocery store at the corner of Bridge and Main Streets for many years.
