N8 315-317 Vanderslice Street

Another Vanderslice family investment was this 1920 Craftsman style duplex. This simplicity is a stark contrast to the original Vanderslice mansions at the other end of the street. The Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) was established in 1846, later than the Philadelphia to Reading line. The PRR originally developed going west – connecting Harrisburg and Johnstown to Pittsburgh. Later, in 1857, it expanded its northeast corridor from Philadelphia. By the late 19th century it was the world’s largest business enterprise and a world-class model for technical innovation. This is where the original PRR station was located.
