S29 Reeves, Cornett & Company (1846) – corner of Bridge and Main streets

First constructed in 1846, this building’s first business was started by Samuel Cornett who sold dry goods and groceries.  In 1849 the building housed Phoenixville’s first post office, with Samuel Cornett serving as Postmaster.  In the 20th century, it was a Woolworth’s 5 & 10 store. Originally this building had another floor.  During the Civil War this served as the sewing room for the Ladies Aid Society.  Later in the 19th century it became the Young Men’s Literary Union, a forerunner of the Phoenixville library.  During World War II it served as the local branch of the USO with many wounded soldiers making use of the facilities there.
