S30 Site of the former Phoenix Hotel – corner of Main and Bridge streets

The Phoenix Hotel was built entirely of wood.  It was a wonderful example of the late 19th century Victorian, Beaux Arts style.  Unfortunately it was destroyed by a fire, and destroyed in the mid-twentieth century.  At one time there were eight hotels in Phoenixville.  They were needed because of the large number of customers from communities around the country coming to the Phoenix Bridge Company to see first-hand what their bridges would look like.
