Built in 1732, this is Phoenixville’s oldest building. This is the same year that George Washington was born. Also, the dark red sandstone steps are original and were quarried locally from the north side of French Creek. This same dark sandstone can also be seen in Foundry walls. James Starr originally operated a grist mill at the site that later became the nail works.
